Customs Brokerage
What is Customs Brokerage?
Customs in logistics refers to the authorities in a country that is responsible for collecting fees, tariffs, and managing the flow of goods (incoming or outgoing). Customs Brokerage or a Customs Broker is a third party who is familiar with the local rules and regulations and can facilitate individuals or companies with the shipment of goods on their behalf. In Papua New Guinea, Customs Brokers must be licensed by the Department of Customs.

How can Swift help?

As a full-service logistics company, Swift can provide advice on regulatory matters, prepare documents, identify which fees are required to be paid, and arrange transport of your goods from the port to your warehouse. This typically saves time and money for companies who do not have a physical presence or dedicated office devoted to handling customs clearance in Papua New Guinea which simplifies their supply chain.

Customs Brokerage services can include:
-
Advising on Correct Duties, Tax and Government Fees to Pay
-
Advising on Tariff & Customs Laws
-
Advising on Compliance & Importation Quotas
-
Preparation of Documents & Import Permits

Why Swift?

Clients who approach Swift as an alternative to their current Customs Brokerage often bring up one of two problems they face: one, frustration due to delays in releasing the cargo from the relevant authority, and two, having to pay unexpected fees and charges.

To address these issues, Swift was one of the first companies in Papua New Guinea to adopt the Job In Progress (JIP) report system which automatically updates clients about the status of their shipments via email, Whatapps or Wechat on a daily basis. Client jobs can also be tracked online at any time with the Swift Tracker.

In addition to the JIP and the Swift Tracker, our close ties with customs ensure that we are up-to-date on the latest changes for compliance to avoid unnecessary delays. We also employ highly experienced, in-house fully licensed, and accredited customs agents with supporting staff to prioritize your assets and communicate problems that may arise. Combined with our network of partners in government institutions, and port authorities ensure that your cargo is insulated from problems arising from delayed shipments, late fees, and compliance issues.

With a combined experience pool of over 50 years, a carefully cultivated network of partners and associations, and frequent updates on your job, we can proudly say that Swift is on the leading edge of Customs Brokerage services.
